How To Be 100% Sure You Will Go To Heaven When You Die

Going to church is important, but the most important thing is to go to Heaven when you die.

If you were to die right now, are you 100% sure that you would go to Heaven, or do you have some doubt?
Some people may answer this question with:
The Bible says that you can know.  In I John 5:13, the Bible says that it was written so that "ye may know that ye have eternal life".  Having eternal life is something that you can know for sure, not hope so.

What do you believe it takes to get to Heaven?
Some people may answer this question with:
The above list is a list of all good things to do.  Those are all good works.  However, according to the Bible, doing good works is not what it takes to get to Heaven.  In Ephesians 2:8-9, the Bible says, "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:  Not of works, lest any man should boast."
What the Bible says it takes to get to Heaven

1. Realize that you are a sinner.
Romans 3:10 says, "As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:"

The word righteous means perfect.  I am not perfect and neither are you.  The Bible says that nobody is perfect.  It goes on to say in Romans 3:23 that "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God."

The Bible says that sin is the transgression of God's law.  Sin includes a number of things that go against what God says.  The Ten Commandments is a good example of what God says is sin.  Not to steal, murder, or even bear false witness (to tell a lie).  Have you ever told a lie before?  Everyone has at least told a lie at one time in their life.  Living a perfect life but even only telling one lie would still make you a sinner.

2. There is a penalty (or payment) for sin.
Romans 6:23a says, "For the wages of sin is death;".  A wage is something that you earn.  If you work a job, you get paid a wage.  Because of sin (even telling one white lie), you earn death.

The Bible refers to two deaths.  The first death is the physical death.  The Bible talks about the second death in Revelation 21:8 and it says, "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death."

The Bible says that Hell, a place of horrible torment, will be cast into this lake of fire (Revelation 20:14) at the final great white throne judgment (Revelation 20:11).  It affirms that those that aren't written in the book of life, that is, those that aren't saved, will be judged by their works and then will be forced to go there (Revelation 20:15).  The verse above contains a roll call of the people that will experience this second death and never get out of it.  Are you included in this list of people that will be facing this second death?  Think on this...  How many people do you have to kill to be a murderer?  How many times do you have to steal to be a thief?  How many lies do you have to tell to be a liar?  Of course, the answer is that it takes only one time.  Everyone would fall into the category of being a liar.

If you are counting on your own works or anything good that you have done to get you to Heaven, the Bible says the payment you will make for your sin will be in this second death forever (Matthew 7:22-23).  Going to Hell is bad news and it is an unbearable and terrible place of torment.

3. Jesus paid the penalty of sin for us.
Romans 5:8 says, "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

The Bible says that Jesus loves us so much, that he suffered a horrible death on the cross and shed his blood so that he could pay for our sins instead of us having to pay for our own sins in Hell.  Jesus was not a sinner, like you and me.  He was God that came in the flesh here on this Earth.  The Bible says in John 1:1, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."  The Bible says that the Word was God.  It goes on to say in verse 14, "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth."  The Bible is saying here that Jesus, the Word, was God.  He was the only sinless one that could pay for our sins.

I Peter 2:24 says, "Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed."  The Bible says that Jesus bare our sins in his own body and paid the price of sin for us on the cross.

What happened three days after Jesus died and they placed him in the tomb?  He rose again!  Just as he said he would.

4. Eternal life is a free gift.
Romans 6:23 says, "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

How long is eternal?  Eternal is forever!  The Bible says that eternal life is a gift.  This gift is not by being good, or by going to a priest, or by any other man.  All men are sinners.  It is only through Jesus, who died, was buried, and rose again (I Corinthians 15:3-4).

What do you have to do to receive a gift?  Do you work for a gift in any way?  Do you pay for it in any way?  A true gift is free, without works and payment.  Once received, a gift is yours to keep and not something that you will have to give back.  Like eternal life, it is a free gift that you cannot pay for.  The last thing Jesus said before he died was, "It is finished."  The price of sin has already been paid in full when Jesus died on the cross and rose again, proving who he said he was and what he would do.

To receive a gift, all you have to do is accept it.

5. Accept the gift of eternal life.
Romans 10:9 says, "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."

Be saved from what?  To be saved means that you will be saved from Hell and saved to Heaven.  Do you believe that Jesus died for you on the cross to pay for your sins?  Do you believe that he rose again three days later?  Confessing Him is what it takes to be saved, not confessing yourself.

Romans 10:10 says, "For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."  Remember Romans 3:10, from above, that says there is none righteous?  God says that you can be righteous in his eyes by having your sins paid for under the blood of Jesus.  It's not just knowing about him, but it's trusting on him with your heart and asking him with your mouth to save you.

Romans 10:13 says, "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."  Whosoever is anyone, including you.  If you truly believe that you are a sinner, that the payment of your sin is Hell, that Jesus died and paid it for you, that he offers you eternal life as a free gift, and that all you have to do to receive the gift is to ask him, he will save you!


Call on Jesus to be Saved Today
You can pray and ask Jesus to come into your heart and be your personal Saviour because you believe that he died and rose again and shed his blood for your sins.

If you would like to call on him to be saved today, you may pray in your own words, or pray this prayer to Him and truly mean it in your heart.

Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and that you died for me on the cross to pay for my sins and rose again three days later.  Please forgive me of my sins, come into my heart, and be my personal Lord and Saviour.  Please take me to Heaven when I die and help me to live for you.  In your name, Amen.

Assurance of Being Saved
Did you pray and ask Jesus to save you because you believe he died and rose again for you?  If you truly meant it, God says that you are now saved.  Not by what any man says, but by what He says in the Bible.

Remember, we can lie and say things that are not true, however, God cannot lie.  In fact, the Bible says that God cannot lie.  Titus 1:2 says, "In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;".  Again, how long is eternal?  Forever!

What did Jesus say?  Romans 10:13, "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."  If you did what God said, and God cannot lie, then are you saved or unsaved?  Saved!

If you are now saved, how do you know you are going to Heaven?  The correct answer would be because of Jesus.  He died for you and if you did what he said to do by believing on Him and you asked him to come into your heart, then you are saved.

John 3:36 says, "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him."  You see, being saved is not based on feelings.  Feelings change from day to day.  Being saved is simply believing on Jesus and putting your trust in him -- not by how good you are, but because he loved you enough to die for you.  Like the verse says, you now have "everlasting life".  This isn't something you hope to get later, this is something you have now.

If you have everlasting life, and you died tomorrow, where would you go?  Heaven or Hell?  How about if you died 10 years from now?  How about 50 years from now?  Your answer should be a definite Heaven!  You see, the Bible is clear that it's not of our own works to get us to Heaven or keep us saved.  The Bible says that none of us are righteous, however, we only become righteous once we believe on him.

Ephesians 4:30 says, "And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption."  The Bible says when you are saved, that you are sealed in Him.  He also says that no man can pluck you out of his Father's hand, once you are saved. 

I John 5:13 says, "These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God."  God says you can be 100% sure that you have eternal life.  It is something that you can be sure of because it's based on Jesus and not ourselves to keep.

Now That I'm Saved, What Next?
Because you are saved, you should want to please Him and praise Him for what he has done for you.  Get in a good independent, fundamental, Baptist, gospel believing church that preaches the same gospel that the Bible teaches.  If your preacher tells of a way other than what the Bible says how to be saved (II Peter 2:1), you should find a different church.

Tell the preacher at the end of the service that you have accepted Jesus as your Saviour and you wanted to make it public.  The Bible says in Romans 10:11, "For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed."  Read your Bible and pray everyday.  II Timothy 2:15 says, "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."

Go tell others, so they can find out how to be saved too.  Mark 16:15 says, "And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature."  The next verse, Mark 16:16 says, "He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned."  The Bible says you should be baptized.  Baptism symbolizes Jesus' death, burial, and ressurection.  In the Bible, baptism always follows believing and is something that is done after one gets saved -- not before.

These are works that are commandments from Jesus for us to do after we are saved.  Remember Ephesians 2:8-9 from above?  Ephesians 2:8-10 says "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:  Not of works, lest any man should boast.  For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them."  Now that you are saved, it is important to serve the Lord and to do good works.  We serve him not to get saved, but, we serve him because we are saved.
